How to Draw Native People: a Tutorial/Reference Guide

As requested, here is a basic guide for how to draw Indigenous peoples (mostly focused on North America)! Also please note that this is not an exhaustive list of Native American phenotypes/features, and more like an intro on very common features that can be found in us, and even then, not altogether at once on a single person's face. I highly encourage the use of references and care taken into research when drawing. I may do a part 2 that goes slightly more into depth, but for now, enjoy part one.

But seriously, I've seen too many drawings of Native characters with literal red/pink skin to count so just in case some of you are having troubles with drawing Native people, I've provided a guide for you. Please take my swatches if it helps!! and no more red skinned people, please <0<

Disclaimer: this tutorial is mainly about the artistic depictions of Indigenous Peoples in North America, where the slur and redskin caricature originated, but it would still be racist to draw other non-North/Central/South American Indigenous groups like this so…..don't.

Procreate HB and 6B Brushes for Paint Tool SAI 2 (January Update 25.01.2020)

Paint Tool Sai is a well known software for Windows in the digital art field, it is light software and easy to understand and work with. However classic Sai lacks a lot of advanced features and brush settings, but thanks God Beta Sai Ver 2 - 25.01.2020 update specifically- added revolutionary features that advanced the usage of paint tool sai; Such features as Perspectives rulers, scatter brush, effect brush, brush groups and dynamic rulers and more!! i highly recommend switching to Sai ver 2 Beta as i guarantee its current smooth flow without lags.

Also those who tried procreate are fascinated with its  HB and 6B brushes , and many wanted to have these tools for sai.. So i made these brushes available  for sai using the  scatter brush which is only found in Sai ver 2.

Follow the link given below and :

• copy the files with similar names (BMP and .int) to the following destination C:\Users\Username\Documents\SYSTEMAX Software Development\SAIv2\settings\scatter
• Copy the Grain BMP file to C:\Users\Username\Documents\SYSTEMAX Software Development\SAIv2\settings\brushtex
• Create new scatter brush, select the brush shape and texture and adjust settings
• I suggest playing with the density and tweak some settings to experience and understand how scatter brushes work

How to Color Digitally

Hey everyone!! We wanted to give you a little tutorial on how to color your coloring pages digitally! These tutorials are shown in the app Procreate and Krita, but pretty much applies to any drawing program you might use. The Procreate tutorial is in yellow, and the Krita tutorial is in blue. It's really simple, it just involves changing the layer's blend mode to multiply. Here are the steps:

Take a screenshot of the page you would like to color and open it in the application of your choosing

Go to your layers. Open up the options for "Blend Modes" (they're usually somewhere above the layer) and change the blend mode to "multiply"

Then create a new layer under the lineart layer

And then color on that layer, and it should work as normal!

If you have any questions, feel free to message us and we'll try to answer them! I might not be experienced with specific programs, but I can ask the other artists and hopefully we can come up with an answer for you :)

@vintagecar-but-onfire I've used sketchbook before and I can help!! It's really easy!!

Click on the Lineart layer and this menu should pop up

Then, click on "blending" and click "multiply"

Then it should work perfectly fine!! Hope this helps :)

The first thing I do before sketching an illustration is decide where I put the camera. Think on the scene and characters, let them talk and place the camera accordingly.
